Abstract
Studies concerning the health situation of migrant workers in western Europe are generally of descriptive/casuistry nature. This article aims at making the inventory of this research tradition, putting the accent on Moroccans in Belgium and the Netherlands. Several operationalisations of health, as they appear in the literature, have been used as dependent variables. It is apparent that almost all research material has emerged from a (medical) health care provider ideology and not from a policy-directed problem-definition. The following content areas are being discussed: 1° work-related problems; 2° registrations of general practitioners; 3° admissions in general hospitals; 4° psychiatric morbidity; 5° tuberculosis; 6° mortality; 7° general studies; 8° specific categories.
