Abstract
Both papers are concerned with Haitian farm workers in the USA. The first describes the changing ethnic composition of farmworkers in Dade County, Florida, and the role that these politically vulnerable workers play in mitigating class tensions. The second examines similar changes in the North Carolina labour market and notes how low Haitian migrant workers' wages are, even by migrant standards. The social isolation of this new group of farm workers is quite profound, a factor which keeps them naive about the highly charged racial atmosphere of the USA and, coming from a society where racism is not a factor in employment opportunities, the Haitians imagine that the only obstacle to a successful job search is learning English.-from WAERSA
