Abstract

The very concept of "social work" does not exist in Vietnamese culture. Consequently, the understanding presented here of the Vietnamese refugees' cultural background, specific reactions to the traumas of flight and uprooting, and particular patterns of coping with the resettlement process is essential for social workers. It enables them to provide sensitive and effective work to this group. © 1984 by the National Association of Social Workers, Inc.
