Abstract

First looks at major issues in studies of rural-urban linkages and remittances. It then considers the Philippine data, both survey and (4) case studies, in the context of Filipino cultural values as well as in terms of the economic constraints and opportunies affecting rural families and households. As rural-urban migration continues to expand, the types of ties maintained between urban and rural residents have implications for the ways in which families and communities change. -B.W.Beeley
