Abstract

During 1st May 1981 - 30th June 1982 346 Kampuchean refugees were brought into the tuberculosis programme in Khao-I-Dang, Thailand. Extrapulmonary manifestations of the tuberculous infection were diagnosed in 36 per cent of the patients. More than half of them had tuberculosis of the peripheral lymph nodes, women being affected 5 times more often than men. Tuberculosis of the bones and joints accounted for more than 20 per cent and disseminated tuberculosis lesions (miliary, polytopic) for 10 per cent of the cases of extrapulmonary tuberculosis. All other manifestations were rare (e.g. tuberculosis of the urogenital tract).
