Abstract

Antenatal care and pregnancy outcome for 68 immigrant Pakistani women was studied with emphasis on the patients' own utilization of available care, such as timing of the first control visit, supply of anamnestic data, frequency of attendance and timing of admission for delivery. In 51 cases it was possible to compare results with Norwegian controls matched for age and parity. Despite the language difficulty these patients supply information on the last menstrual period and they make good use of the available control apparatus. A beneficial effect of immigration is suggested by the greater increase in birthweights in successive pregnancies noted in 22 Pakistani women when compared with matched Norwegian controls.
