Abstract

In this paper, the transient thermal-stress problem in a plate subjected to frictional heat generation in rolling (or welding) is theoretically analyzed with the consideration of the thermomechanical coupling effect. Numerical evaluation is carried out for the temperature distribution, thermal stresses, and thermal deformation in a flat plate heated by linear heat sources which are located symmetrically on both surfaces and which move with constant velocity. © 1982 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
