Abstract

The many refugees from South-East Asia in the GFR give rise to problems in the areas of epidemiological hygiene and individual medicine. Solving their individual medical problems requires knowledge of the regional distribution of tropical diseases, skill in parasitological and serological methods and experience of chemotherapy of these diseases. Counselling by special institutes for tropical medicine is therefore necessary. The possibilities of leprosy and malaria should be kept in mind. The high prevalence of persons with HBs and HBe antigen and with tuberculosis constitute an important epidemiological problem that needs more study.
