Abstract

Four questions referring to the physical health were used in the elaboration of an indicator of Physical Health for a group of immigrants. This indicator showed an important correlation (0.59) with the Mental Health score of Langner. The addition of factors of Social and Education Relations to the indicator of Physical Health has increased the explained variation of the Mental Health score to 45%. Analysis of regression has shown that the lack of Social Relations is an important factor in the prediction of a depressive symptomatology, in particular in female immigrants. The practical implications are discussed.
