Abstract
Background: Torture also currently belongs to the fate of many people who apply for asylum in Germany. Objectives: Relevance of threatened or sustained torture for decisions concerning the legal aspects of asylum. Methodology of enlightenment. Material and methods: Consideration of the legal and investigative practice from the point of view of the Federal Office of Migration and Refugees. Results: Torture by state or non-state actors can constitute an imminent persecution or a serious damage under the legal aspects of asylum and can lead to a protection. Torture that relates to medical ailments can also justify a ban of deportation. The enlightment is usually carried out by so-called special officers at the Federal Office of Migration and Refugees. Medical expert opinions and reports may be taken into consideration. © 2017, Springer Medizin Verlag Berlin.
