Abstract
For the treatment of traumatized refugees, the cultural and sociopolitical aspects, the perception of disease, conceptions of healing, as well as strategies to form therapeutic relationships must be considered. Besides the acceptance of pain within the cognitive behavior therapy, the language barriers and psychosocial stress have to be taken in account. In the present article the interaction of cultural and psychosocial factors of patients from different cultures in cognitive behavior therapy are discussed and recommendations are derived. Of note, it is emphasized that a culturally sensitive combination of narrative and exposure strategies could complement the cognitive behavior approach in a helpful way. © 2017, Springer Medizin Verlag Berlin.
