Abstract
In this paper, we discuss family dynamics in a transnational context, where members of the extended family live in different countries. In this context, we focus on the way family members use new communicational technologies to maintain transnational ties. We argue that the way a family uses these technologies can be highly informative about the way a family organises transnational bounds. On the basis of a case report we encountered in the intercultural consultation of the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Department (SUPEA) of the Toulouse University Hospital (Hôpital La Grave), we discuss how the use of these technologies is changing during a therapeutic process. Our clinical example also illustrates that working in a co-therapy setting and cooperating with an interpreter can provide helpful strategies for a therapeutic work interested in the way a family deals with cultural difference. © De Boeck Supérieur.
