Abstract

Understanding the different types of agency exercised by Senegalese migrant women implies considering the social, economic and family context. From the case of transnational households located between Senegal and Valencia, this study classifies different organizational patterns in the Senegalese conjugal households, according to the degree of economic collaboration in marriage. Afterwards, these patterns are related to the different presences of Senegalese women in external networks to the conjugal family, in an attempt to understand why different women hold different lines of action outside of marriage. Thus, the pioneering work of Bott(1990) on the relationship between conjugal roles and social networks is rescued, while we deepen our understanding of the agency migrant women.
