Abstract

Young refugees carry a burden of somatic and psychic disease acquired before and during their flight and certain health risks after arrival as well. Unaccompanied minors are especially vulnerable. Therefore the special screening examination 3-umF was developed for this group in order to detect health and developmental problems early. This programme includes the examination for infectious diseases required by law and can help to assess the need for support and the general development of the young refugees. Although refugees usually do not transmit diseases to the home population, their own risk to catch infections is increased. To cope with this situation, we must provide early protection by vaccinations and react quickly in potentially dangerous conditions like fever without focus. Unaccompanied minors are also at high risk for traumatisation and its sequelae. J-umF aims at early detection and therapy in order to prevent chronification and to facilitate integration.
