Abstract

Prevalence data regarding mental disorders in migrant groups is still largely missing in Germany, and existing data on this heterogeneous population is only allowing limited conclusion. Moreover, the migrant population in Germany is facing numerous barriers to access the health care system, including access to psychiatric and in especially psychotherapeutic treatment. The resulting treatment gap can create a strained situation for new coming migrants, such as refugees. Thus, timely action is needed regarding the collection of data on mental disorders in migrants, the reduction of access barriers, and the extension of existing treatment options.
