A structural relationship analysis of social adjustment, depression, and social support, discriminatory experience among marriage migrant women (Article)

Abstract
This study analyzed the structural relationship between social adjustment, depression, and social support, discriminatory experience among marriage migrant women. For this, 360 marriage migrant women in Chungchengnam do, South Korea were surveyed. The data was analyzed using structural equation modeling, and the equation model was constructed based on the Stress-Coping Theory. The results of this study are as follows: First, x2 = 516.129, df = 220, CFI = .941, TLI = .932, and RMSEA = .61; good fit indices were shown. Second, regarding relevance among variables, the path coefficients from social support to discriminatory experience, social adjustment, and depression were all significant. In addition, the path coefficients from discriminatory experience to social adjustment and depression, and from was significant, and from social adjustment to depression were significant. That is, regarding social adjustment, depression, and discriminatory experience, social support showed both direct and indirect effects. Therefore, this study suggests that it is necessary to establish effective social support practice and policy for marriage migrant women. In addition, this study suggests that the follow-up study should be longitudinal study to verify the causal relationship between various factors such as marriage migrant women's discrimination-related stress, health, and cultural adjustment. © 2017 International Information Institute.
