Abstract

As the number of marriage-based female immigrants increases, the issues on how to improve their quality of life are important today. Focus of this study is on conducting correlation analysis of social support, acculturation, and life satisfaction of international marriage women immigrants living in Korea by examining their level of recognition of these factors, as well as verifying the mediating effects of sub-factors of acculturation on social support factor and life satisfaction. For this study, 254 female marriage immigrants taking the course at multicultural center C in Jeonbuk area were selected as subjects of the research. The results of the research are as follows: First, the average scores of female marriage immigrants were M=3.09 for social support, M=2.80 for acculturation, and M=3.40 for life satisfaction respectively, which were a little bit higher than a normal level (3). Second, the result of putting in emotional support, appraisal support, informational support, and material support-sub-factors of social support recognized by international marriage women immigrants-shows emotional support, appraisal support, and informational support had effects on life satisfaction mediated by integration; integration had partially mediating effects; and assimilation in acculturation also had partially mediating effects. Therefore, for marriage-based female immigrants to adapt themselves to Korean society, various efforts are needed including respect, love, trust, and attention as well as recognition of marriage-based female immigrants and job placement rather than focusing on the material support. © 2017 International Information Institute.
