Abstract

This study is an architectural design study to apply the concept of the boundary to the architectural design. For this purpose, this study explores the role of the skin of the building, and implements the boundary as a physical reality. The proposed building in this study is a pier museum for Cuban immigrants, which replaces the life of Cuban immigrants as the marginal man with the concept of the boundaries as an architectural design concept on the Miami Beach. The planning concepts applied to the design are as follows. First, by the attribute of the skin of the building, make the building naturally express the property of the place where the building is located. Second, the functional fluidity between the interior spaces of the building make the building have the property of a blurred boundary. This study expresses the identity of architectural space by embodying the concept of the boundary in various ways as architectural planning elements. © 2017 International Information Institute.
