Abstract
This contribution aims at discussing the hope of migrants from a religious perspective. As a methodological choice, only migrants, who have arrived in Europe through the so-called "Central Mediterranean Route" between 2012 and 2015, have been considered. The study dealt only with Christianity, Islam and traditional African religions, which are the three main religions of the selected migrants. The contribution begins with a brief analysis of the available data relating to the religions professed by the selected migrants. Subsequently, considering the difficulty of providing a universally agreed upon definition, the contribution proposes a philosophical and religious approximation to the concept of hope. Thirdly, the "theological" comprehension and development of this concept in the three selected religions is discussed. Finally, on the basis of few real cases, the contribution presents how religious hope is concretely manifested in migrants' experience as reliance to the transcendent, forbearance in view of the future, defiance of death and positive interpretation of the tragedy with the possibility of redemption.
