Beyond the American dream: envisioning social justice for 21st century immigrants (Article)

Fierke J.*

Abstract

The author reflects on her upbringing in an immigrant family while co-facilitating a newcomer group for middle schoolers in Chicago. Working with these students reminds the author that while advancing justice is often presented as making something extraordinary out of an impossibly grim situation, the true essence of social justice is enabling people everywhere to have the enjoyable ordinary lives they desire. © 2019, © 2019 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
