Abstract
This article refers to research results of an empirical study focussing the social and economic situation of migrant elder women who do not live in a partnership. It must be taken into account that gender and marital status influence lifestyles in old age as well as the socio economic situation and the quality of life. Single migrant elder women are not a homogeneous social group. Indeed, there is a broad heterogeneity and variety concerning lifestyles and socio-cultural orientations. On the other hand their social situation often is problematical. These insufficiencies concerning their living conditions probably can interfere with the quality of life in old age. Especially their socio-economic situation is more precarious in relation to both elder Germans and other migrant elders and primarily an outcome of relative socio-economic deprivation. © 2009 by Verlag Hans Huber.
