Abstract

This paper addresses the need to involve the immigrant families in their children's schooling. In spite of little effort being made by multicultural schools to ensure that the parents of minority pupils become real partners with teachers in their children's education, this study tries to give direction and practical examples as stimuli to continue working with enthusiasm towards this goal. In this respect, the paper strongly insists on the fundamental rol of teachers in the creation of good relationships with these families. In so doing, the teachers would go beyond their usual, mainly academic, professional role enabling them to establish affective relationships with the parents, in order to create a climate wherein parents feel closer to the school, as if it were partly theirs, and therefore inviting them to take part in a more collaborative way with their children's teachers.
