Abstract
In recent years, in Spain, there has been a significant increase in the immigrant population. The current study deals with the immigrant's phenomenon in relation to infant and adolescence mental health in Catalonia, and particularly in Delta littoral and Hospitalet catchment's area. Between 2003 and 2006, 580 patients who were offspring of foreign immigrants were attended in the five mental health centres of the Fundació Orienta. It was concluded that the typical patient profile was a boy of ten years, coming from South America, referred by a health care centre and diagnosed with a neurotic, stress-related and somatoform disorders. In the discussion, we also point out the need for different further studies in aspects of infant and adolescence mental health assistance in the foreign immigrant population.
