Abstract

The study applies at the efficient psychiatric treatment of immigrants who in the course of their resettlement come to attention by offences against the penal law connected with addiction. The obstacles to integration of immigrants mostly from the former Soviet Union possessing the German nationality are increasingly language deficits and problems of schooling and occupational training. Their situation is in addition psychologically difficult because the power of ethnic and national bonding was over-estimated for a long time. The psychiatric and psychotherapeutic treatment of the immigrants concerned is carried out by a withdrawal centre per §64 of the criminal code. Its characteristics are the trauma therapeutic approach and the strict adherence of principles of non-violence and a basically 'democratic' attitude. © 2008 Copyright by 'Pinel' Verlag, Berlin.
