Abstract
Government policies today tend to define asylum seekers as "real" or "fake" refugees. They are conducting a veritable campaign against immigration that they label "clandestine". In this article the subjective effects of such suspicions will be explored based on a particular case of a young female asylum seeker. The task of narrative reconstruction undertaken enables the analysis of how profoundly traumatised the asylum seeker is by describing the persecution she has suffered to state agencies. The analysis of this transferential process illuminates how the person listening, in this case the psychotherapist, can not be left unscathed by what amounts to human cruelty.
