Abstract
For years the crime rate of repatriates from former Russia causes deep concern. Ethnic German immigrants are especially blamed to commit violent crimes or theft, often following alcohol abuse. In this empirical study repatriates' aggressiveness was assessed. Delinquent and non delinquent ethnic German immigrants were compared as well as delinquent and non delinquent Germans. Additionally, immigrants who were convicted for violent crimes were compared to those who had committed theft. Overall, results do not confirm an increased rate of aggressiveness within ethnic German immigrants. Although differences between the ethnic groups for special factors of aggressiveness could be found differences between delinquent and non delinquent persons proved to be more important, irrespective of ethnic affiliation. Discrimination concerning education and job as well as social isolation appear to be a strong mediator variable contributing to a criminal development in both delinquent ethnic groups who were convicted for violent crimes. © 2008 by Verlag Hans Huber, Hogrefe AG.
