Abstract
Regarding with particular interest the period 1732-1777, in this article the deaths of slaves and native people subjected to forced labor at Curitiba are examined with emphasis on seasonality and mortality crises. Seasonality and crises (in this case taking seasons and not years into account) are regarded as tools designed to allow the proposition of hypotheses regarding causes of death. Despite the high degree of uncertainty, a comparative perspective makes it possible to discuss aspects of morbidity patterns and the problem of transition from Indian to slave labor.
