Abstract

Research in intercultural sensitive approaches of mental health care systems is gaining more and more importance. In fact, efforts to support a cross cultural opening and improve medical treatment for people with different cultural backgrounds are manifold. However, reliable data of psychiatric patient-centred care is not sufficient yet. This article summarises significant details of the most relevant studies dealing with this topic. The following data collected during a survey conducted by German Federal Conference of Psychiatric Hospital Directors gives profound insight into current conditions and structures of psychiatric clinical routine particularly with regard to their quality of culture sensitive care. Finally, this contribution discusses future perspectives of culturally adequate diagnostics and treatment as well as further investigations needed to get an indepth understanding of migrants. © Schattauer 2014.
