Abstract
A landscape planning survey explores working men's houses in Eisenerz, a mining town in the Styrian Erzberg region. Historical analysis concludes that the dwellings date back to the era of the Nazi regime, when the Erzberg mines became an important armament site for the Third Reich. Consequently, state-of-the-art research enquires into Nazi Forced Labour, demonstrating that this aspect of contemporary history in Eisenerz has yet to be processed. Memory and culture of remembrance are of great importance to a critical approach to the past. Landscape planning research can harness this perspective as a driving force for the future development of a shrinking town.
