Abstract
The Authors analyzed data from street-based interviews of 127 female sex traders in Genoa. Prostitutes were from East-Europe, the Americas, Albania, Africa and Italy. Acquired data demonstrated that 33% of sex traders had no correct knowledge and behaviors about STDs and AIDS, and reppresented a high risk for public health. Mass media was cited more than small media as a source of information about STDs and AIDS. The findings suggest small media and interpersonal channels can reach female sex traders who may be at highest risk, and receiving health education messages may reduce risk, increase knowledge and change behaviours.
