Abstract

The execution of Francesc Macià alias Bac de Roda was, in the dialectics of war, a means of showing an example and revenge by the pro-Bourbon side but also produced desires for revenge by the pro-Austrian side which had a bearing on the killings in the immediate period and which led to the beginning of the mythologisation of the character. Additionally, his death had a devastating effect on his family, who had to go into exile and saw all their assets confiscated.
