Abstract
5 out of the last 20 German Medical Assemblies (Deutsche Ärztetage), the annual meetings of the German Medical Association, expressed an unequivocal aversion towards refugee-related age assessment. Such decision making was largely influenced by initiatives of certain interest-groups, whose perspectives can clearly be detected from the respective reasoning. On close inspection it is recognized that the related argumentation is based on an ignorance of legal and scientific backgrounds of forensic age estimation plus misunderstandings concerning the tenet of medical expert opinion. © 2014, Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.
