Abstract

The paper aims at showing effects of globalisation as they occur in two distinct contexts in Kenya, namely in the domains of cash crop production by small scale farmers and the preservation of biodiversity at a national scale. The interest is geared toward the processes and practices resulting at the two levels of governance and farming. As for the first, the preservation of biodiversity advances to a highly political issue because it offers opportunities for the alienation of gratuities provided by international donors. On the other hand, farmers are exposed to global processes. They suffer from the consequences which endanger their existence. Moreover, they are victims of the socio-political struggles. As experienced in many other parts of the world, their response consists of attempts to disarticulate and mobilize traditional strategies. Among the Kikuyu, their sophisticated strategy may be labelled family circulation. -English summary
