Abstract

Noeleen Heyzer and Vivienne Wee examine the magnitude and future of the maid trade by collating data on the extent of the trade in the Asian region. They analyze the different gains and problems faced by the actors involved: the sending countries, receiving countries, recruitment agencies, employers and their households, the domestic workers' own families and kin, and the domestic worker herself.
