The main findings of three empirical researches conducted in the province of Trento are presented with a view to gain knowledge about the quantitative aspects, the socio-anthropological characteristics and the impact of immigrants from non-European countries on the local economic structure. These findings are such as to go beyond the provincial level in so far as they serve to have a better grasp of and wider application to immigrants from non EC countries. They reveal the functional role exercised by immigrants, particularly in some central and northern areas of the country, for its economic growth and the consequent necessity and urgency to formulate plans of social interventions. The necessity to seriously face the problem of accessibility to housing and health services and, at the same time, guarantee an adequate information, is great. -from English summary
