Abstract
One of the prime objectives of the local public powers to stop the growth of Guadalajara, second metropolitan area of the country, is the development of middle-sized cities in the State of Jalisco. The participation of the State has yielded important results, but in an unequal manner in the different localities. On the other hand the migrations to the US, which have recently increased, constitute one of the answers to the economic crisis. These international movements slow the demographic expansion of some cities in the State. The financial movements associated with these migrations seem, for the moment, to have a small impact on the development of these cities, the opposite of what was observed in some rural areas of the country. -English summary
