Abstract
Purpose: This study aims to understand the marital satisfaction level in the married migrant women from China and to confirm the correlation and influential power among acculturative stress, marital communication, and parenting efficacy. Method: This is the study with secondary data analysis using 168 immigrant women’s data from China among the collected data for Structural Model on the Family Strengths of Married Migrant Women by Yoon in 2017. They were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson’s correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple regression using SPSS Win version 21.0 program. Results: Mean marital satisfaction level was 29.92 (±5.16) points demonstrating the differences by the age level of their husbands, route of marriage, religion, number of children, presence of preschool aged children, monthly income level, and the Korean language skill (p<.05). Upon the correlation analysis, it showed the negative correlation with acculturative stress (r=-.519, p<.001), while positive correlation with marital communication (r=.669, p<.001), and parenting efficacy (r=.249, p=.001). Five significant variables to be able to explain the marital satisfaction level include marital communication, acculturative stress, the age level of their husbands, route of marriage, and presence of preschool aged children, demonstrating 58.9% of marital satisfaction level in the study subjects, and marital communication was the strongest predictor with 44.5%. Conclusion: This study has the meaning to prepare the wide range of fundamental data for the development of programs to enhance the marital satisfaction level among the married migrant women in the future upon analyzing the data not only from the individual immigrant women but also their family members including the man and wife relationship and children factors in the studies related to the marital satisfaction level in the married migrant women. © 2018, Indian Journal of Public Health Research and Development.
