Abstract

This article dwells on some psychological problems encountered by immigrants, in terms of identity crisis caused by deracination and in relation to changes in their personality. All the subjects were requested to fill in a questionnaire and had to describe three concepts on 20 scales of bipolar advectives, instrumental to define the identity of Philippine women living in Italy. Results show that apparently the Philippine community is, among the foreign communities living in Italy, the one which has least difficulties in adaptation. Its cost is however paid in terms of an important psychological discomfort; in fact, stress resulting from the change results in a number of psychological disorders. Results regarding the "semantic differential' show that, in both groups, the Italian woman is seen as being more powerful but with an overall consideration inferior to that of oneself and of Philippine women in general. -from English summary
