Abstract

After five years of increasing misery the peasant population of El Salvador displaced by war divided in 1985 it was time to go home. An initial trickle turned into a flow as the displaced saw repopulation as the only durable solution to the problem of displacement, despite opposition by the armed forces and a continuing war. The reasons, behind the gathering pace of repopulation and the physical and human rights' conditions under which people survived once home are the subject of this article. The response by the armed forces and the plight of humanitarian agencies is also considered here. -from Author
