Priorities for refugee assistance at present and in the near future are outlined. Solutions to crises are proposed: voluntary refugee repatriation in conditions of safety and dignity, with humanitarian aid and peace-keeping measures provided in formerly war-racked nations. Action is needed in Haiti and Cambodia, whilst CIREFCA (International Conference for Central American Refugees) has produced worthwhile results, and its approaches could be used elsewhere. There is a particular need for protection of women and children and for re-settlement of persecuted groups. Support for the efforts of voluntary agencies is called for. -C.Lloyd
