Abstract

Hungary, as part of the Central-Eastern European region, experiences extensive international immigration and emigration. Until recently the country has had no comprehensive migration policy, and public opinion has been a major influence on government decisions. In 1991, a Committee on Migration was formed; this paper details its proposals on refugee policy and asylum law, along with the main principles of legislation and administration. A new political environment will be created, where recognized refugees can become active members of society. -C.Lloyd
