Abstract
In the framework of our preliminary clinical research, we have briefly studied personality disorders, behavioral pathology and the problems of adjustment in the adult and more particularly the elderly after immigration, and their integration in the new societies. During the second half of the present century, the increased number of immigrants, refugees and victims of political repression etc... has become a world-wide phenomenon, facing western societies and consequently some psychiatric hospitals or Mental Health Centers. This results partly because of social events, revolution etc... and also, as we observed in many cases, because of early retirement, reduced pension or forced immigration. In these circumstances, serious problems and difficulties of adjustment occur: many people (aged ≥55) during their inactivity period or disemployment, are confronted with a threat to their physical and mental health. This frequently occurs with increasing age and breeds a 'depression' and 'anxiety syndrome', resulting in some cases 'crisis of identity', traumatism and 'personality disorders' etc... Several authors and researchers (H. Baruk, J. Wertheimer, H. Rabbani, J. Shanan, H. Loo and others) have recently studied the psychological, economical and psycho-social factors, and some disavantaged environments, related to the 'personality disorders' adjustment and pathological behaviours. In order to prepare adults and old aged immigrants for the new society, and establishment of adequate adjustment and interpersonal relationships, and also to assess their psychological and psychosocial needs, the efforts of psychotherapeutic teams (generally clinical psychologists and social workers) should be aimed at maintaining the general well-being and mental health of the immigrants - suffering from mental and psychosomatic disorders - by increasing their happiness, self-satisfaction, etc...
