As a consequence of Freud's exile the burden of and the responsibility for the further development of psychoanalysis went over to English authors. Psychoanalysis lost its 'mother tongue' and went therefore itself into an 'interminable' exile. After the expulsion of Freud and his daughter Anna the translation of his writings became urgently needed. Jones, who was already early engaged in this project, made it to his task to control and influence Strachey in the translation of what became known as Standard Edition. His goal was to create a scientific language of psychoanalysis on the basis of the model of medicine in order to make it acceptable for the scientific establishment of England. His influence is reflected in the fact, that in Standard Edition the ambiguity and depth of Freud's language has suffered.
