Abstract

It is well known that men and women who are married have lower mortality rates than those who are not. It is also known that some migrants from abroad have higher mortality rates than people in England and Wales and that they have different patterns of family formation and dissolution. In this article the authors investigate the patterns of mortality by country of birth, marital status and cause of death to see if the overall differences in mortality among migrants can be explained by their different marital patterns.
