Abstract

This study focused on intercultural differences in compliment interactions between Chinese immigrants and North Americans. Six topics were found that described the locations where communication differences occur between North Americans' and Chinese immigrants' perceptions of intercultural compliment interactions: (a) quantity of compliments, (b) compliment adjectives, (c) compliment intent, (d) range of compliment topics, (e) compliment response, and (f) channel. © 1998 Taylor & Francis.
