Abstract

"Recently in France, in accordance with the jurisprudence developed by the Refugees Claims Commission, the Council of State has admitted as a general principle of law that when asylum is granted to an individual, the same right may be extended to his close family members. In fact, this ¿family unity' clause allowing ¿family reunification' brings [a right to] asylum to spouse as well as children. In statistical records, these family members have accounted for almost two thirds of the asylums granted in France, during the nine first months [of 1995]." (EXCERPT)
