Abstract
Functional complaints are very common in outpatient care. Apart from the well known problems with differential diagnosis, the following paper describes special aspects of diagnosis and treatment, particularly those encountered in immigrants. The discussion concentrates on the conflicts faced by immigrants during the integration process and the doctor/patient relationship. The authors point out how referral circles occur with the attendant risk of chronification.
