Abstract
Women migrating alone constitute a growing percentage of the migratory community in the world. In the last five years, hundreds of thousands of new immigrants have arrived in Israel. Most of them have come from the former Soviet Union, and some of them from Ethiopia. In spite of the different world-view of the families in both cultures, the ratio of single-parent families in these two immigrant populations is similar. This paper aims to narrate the lives of two single-parent families from these very distinct backgrounds who have to cope with the process of migration on the one hand, and with being single-parent families on the other. © 1996, The Haworth Press.
