Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to present some of the findings of an empirical research into the psychosomatic effects of immigration on German women who live and work in Greece. The research was based on the hypothesis that it is not the factor of immigration per se which has negative effects on mental and physical health but that the individual circumstances that exist in each case of immigration need to be investigated. In order to examine this hypothesis we used the Giessner Beschwerdebogen (GBB) Model in a sample of 52 (n=52) German speaking female immigrants aged 26-60 who had been living in Greece for a period of more than 3 years. We then compared our findings with those obtained from the questionnaire given to the control group of women in Germany. Finally, the results based on statistical analysis support our initial hypothesis.
