Abstract

This article reports on a search looking for the number of institutionalised migrants suffering from dementia in Flanders. A growing number of migrants living in Flanders reaches the age where the prevalence of dementia is no longer negligible. In the scope of a broader research for the care of dementia sufferers was checked how many people of Turkish, Maroccan or Italian origin live in residential settings. A weighed random survey of all Flemish homes for the elderly was contacted by telephone. Less then 1% of the total nursing home population seems to have a Turkish, Maroccan or Italian background.
